EU AI Act Article 50: transparency obligations for chatbots and generated content
Article 50 sets transparency duties that apply beyond high-risk systems. Providers must ensure people are informed they are interacting with an AI system unless obvious, providers of systems generating synthetic content must mark outputs in a machine-readable way, and deployers of certain systems must disclose deepfakes and AI-generated text published to inform the public.
Prove the disclosure ran
It is easy to claim the chat widget shows a notice. Record the disclosure as an event in the run, so you can show it was emitted for a given conversation.
Provenance of outputs
Where outputs are marked, record the marking step and the model that produced the content, so a later check can connect an artefact to a run.
Gaps to state honestly
A ledger shows the notice was sent, not that the person read it, and the technical marking standards are still evolving.
How Vetro helps
Vetro writes every model call, tool call and policy decision to a hash-chained, ed25519-signed ledger that anyone can verify with the public key. Vetro Attest verifies a ledger or OTLP GenAI trace for free and, for 49 USD, issues a counter-signed report mapping the evidence to the EU AI Act, including an explicit list of what the log cannot show. This is technical evidence, not legal advice.
