Vetro Attest vs. AgentOps
*Engineering comparison, not legal advice. AgentOps features change quickly; check their documentation for the current state.*
AgentOps is built for agents specifically: it records what an agent did, step by step, so a developer can replay and debug it. Vetro Attest turns one such record into evidence that holds up with someone who was not in the room.
What AgentOps does well
AgentOps is an observability SDK and dashboard for AI agents. Teams use it to:
- Record sessions of an agent run: LLM calls, tool calls, errors and timing, with integrations for common agent frameworks;
- Replay a session as a timeline to see where an agent went wrong;
- Track cost and tokens per session and per agent;
- Spot failures such as loops, tool errors and long runs across many sessions.
For debugging multi-agent systems in development and production, it is a strong choice.
What a session-replay tool does not give you
Evidence for a regulator, an auditor or a customer must convince someone who does not trust you.
- The operator controls the data. Session recordings are stored by the vendor or by you; either way, the party with an interest in the outcome can in principle change them, so an export is a claim, not proof.
- A replay is a view, not a signature. Replaying a session shows what the store contains now. It does not show that the store held the same thing at the time of the incident.
- No independent timestamp. Nothing outside your system pins the record to a moment.
- No mapping onto the AI Act. Logging duties (Art. 12 for providers, Art. 19 and 26 for retention) and human oversight (Art. 14) ask what the logs make traceable and who could intervene, not only what happened.
None of this is a flaw in AgentOps; it is outside what the tool is for.
What Vetro Attest adds
Vetro Attest accepts an OTLP/JSON trace with the OpenTelemetry GenAI semantic conventions, or a natively signed Vetro ledger, rebuilds it into a hash-chained ledger and checks it for free. For 29 USD, one-off, you get:
- a full EU AI Act report (Markdown and HTML) mapping the trace onto logging and oversight obligations;
- an ed25519 countersignature over the digest, event count and timestamp, verifiable by anyone against our published public key, no account needed.
The countersignature attests that the trace verified at a time. It does not attest that the events are true; the report is a structured aid, not legal advice or certification.
When to use both
- Keep AgentOps to watch, replay and debug your agents.
- When a run matters, export its trace as OTLP/JSON or record it with the Vetro SDK, and get it countersigned. Store the attestation next to the session.
- On an audit or dispute, hand over the trace plus the attestation. The recipient checks the signature themselves.
AgentOps lets you replay what your agent did. The countersignature lets someone else believe the replay.
Try it
- Run the free EU AI Act Art. 12/14 checker.
- Paste an OTLP trace on the Vetro Attest home page and verify it free. The full report plus countersignature is 29 USD, no subscription.
