Vetro Attest vs. Credo AI
*Engineering comparison, not legal advice. Credo AI's product changes quickly; check their site for the current state.*
Credo AI governs AI at the organisation level: which systems exist, what risk class they fall into, which policies apply, who signed off. Vetro Attest answers a narrower question: can you prove what one AI system actually did?
What Credo AI does well
- AI registry: an inventory of models, use cases and third-party AI across the organisation;
- Policy packs that translate regulations and standards (EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001) into requirements and controls;
- Risk and impact assessments with workflows, approvals and reporting for governance committees;
- Vendor AI risk reviews for tools you buy.
For a large organisation setting up AI governance across many teams, it is a strong choice.
What a governance platform does not give you
- Attestations about the process, not the run. Assessments and approvals record what people declared. Art. 12 asks that the system's logs make its operation traceable; that is machine evidence, produced at runtime.
- The operator holds the record. Governance artifacts live in a system the organisation controls; to an outside party they are statements, not proof.
- No per-trace signature. Nothing pins an agent's tool calls, policy decisions and human interventions to a digest and a moment verifiable without an account.
- Enterprise sales cycle. Pricing is quote-based and sized for a governance programme, which is a lot for a team with one high-risk use case.
None of this is a flaw in Credo AI; it is a different layer of the stack.
What Vetro Attest adds
Vetro Attest accepts an OTLP/JSON trace (OpenTelemetry GenAI conventions) or a natively signed Vetro ledger and checks it for free. For 29 USD, one-off:
- a full EU AI Act report mapping the trace onto logging (Art. 12, 19, 26) and human oversight (Art. 14);
- an ed25519 countersignature over digest, event count and timestamp, verifiable by anyone against our published key.
Deploying third-party AI with no logs? The document pack (99 USD) drafts a FRIA (Art. 27), an Annex IV documentation draft, an AI literacy plan (Art. 4) and Art. 50 notices from one form, countersigned. A starting draft, not a legal opinion.
When to choose which
- Choose Credo AI when you need an organisation-wide AI inventory, policy mapping and governance workflow across many teams.
- Choose Vetro Attest when you need runtime evidence for a specific system now, self-serve, without procurement.
- Use both: the governance platform says which systems are high-risk and what they must log; the countersigned trace proves they did.
