Vetro Attest vs. OneTrust AI Governance
*Engineering comparison, not legal advice. OneTrust's modules change often; check their documentation for the current state.*
OneTrust AI Governance is a module of a large privacy, risk and GRC suite: it inventories AI systems and runs assessments through the same workflows a privacy team already uses. Vetro Attest produces machine evidence of what an AI system did.
What OneTrust AI Governance does well
- AI inventory linked to data maps, vendors and processing records the privacy team already maintains;
- Assessment templates for AI risk, DPIAs and EU AI Act obligations, with approval workflows;
- Integration with the wider suite: consent, vendor risk, policy management, reporting;
- Scale for large organisations with many business units.
If your organisation already runs on OneTrust, adding AI governance there is a natural choice.
What an assessment workflow does not give you
- Questionnaires record declarations. An assessment says logging is in place. Art. 12 asks that the logs themselves make the system's operation traceable; Art. 19 and 26 ask that they are kept.
- The record is held by the operator. Assessments and exports live in a system you control; an outside party has to trust them.
- No independent signature per run. Nothing pins a specific agent run, with its tool calls and human interventions, to a digest and a moment.
- Suite pricing. Licensing is quote-based and usually part of a larger contract.
None of this is a flaw in OneTrust; it is a different layer.
What Vetro Attest adds
Vetro Attest accepts an OTLP/JSON trace (OpenTelemetry GenAI conventions) or a natively signed Vetro ledger and checks it for free. For 29 USD, one-off:
- a full EU AI Act report mapping the trace onto logging (Art. 12, 19, 26) and human oversight (Art. 14);
- an ed25519 countersignature over digest, event count and timestamp, verifiable by anyone against our published key.
Deploying third-party AI with no logs? The document pack (99 USD) drafts a FRIA (Art. 27), an Annex IV documentation draft, an AI literacy plan (Art. 4) and Art. 50 notices from one form, countersigned. A starting draft for your DPO to review, not a legal opinion.
When to choose which
- Choose OneTrust when AI governance must live inside an existing privacy and GRC programme.
- Choose Vetro Attest when a team needs runtime evidence for one system now, without procurement.
- Use both: link the attestation from the AI assessment as the evidence behind "logs are kept and traceable".
Try it
- Run the free EU AI Act Art. 12/14 checker.
