How long must I keep my AI agent's logs?
High-risk AI systems must record events automatically over their lifetime (Art. 12). Providers keep those logs for at least six months (Art. 19), deployers keep the logs under their control for at least six months (Art. 26(6)), unless other EU or national law asks for longer. Logs are one part of the file
Retention covers Art. 12 and 19. The documents an authority asks for first are Annex IV technical documentation, the FRIA (Art. 27), the AI literacy plan (Art. 4) and transparency notices (Art. 50): the compliance pack drafts all four from one questionnaire and signs them with ed25519.

An auditor will ask not only whether you kept the logs, but whether anyone could have edited them. Vetro Attest countersigns your Vetro ledger or OpenTelemetry GenAI trace with ed25519 and maps it to Art. 12 / 14 / 19 / 26 in an EU AI Act evidence report verifiable offline. 49 USD, one-off.

Six months is the floor in Regulation (EU) 2024/1689; sector law (e.g. MiFID II record-keeping, DORA incident records), contracts or litigation holds can require longer, and GDPR storage limitation forbids keeping personal data longer than needed, so document the period you choose and why.
